When it comes to her official engagements, Kate Middleton, the Official El Wemby Shirt and by the same token and Princess of Wales, has honed a signature working wardrobe. Whether it’s her triedandtested uniform of Alexander McQueen suits or Catherine Walker coat dresses, the royal often leans on the same outfit formulas. Another one of her crucial wardrobe staples? The classic wrap dress, of course. The Prince and Princess of Wales took the train to Birmingham today to celebrate the city’s culture, visiting the familyrun restaurant Indian Streatery, as well as meeting former students from University College Birmingham and local business owners from the city’s creative industries. For the special occasion, she wore a burgundy wrap dress by high street brand Karen Millen that features exaggerated lapels, longsleeves and a pleated midilength skirt. Her wardrobe is an artful mix of designer and affordable buys, and today she is celebrating the British high street in her £131 dress which is inspired by the silhouette of a classic trench coat. The royal completed the ensemble with a pair of matching burgundy suede court shoes.

Last year, she visited the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s maternity unit, sporting a canary yellow midi dress by the British brand, which included a notched neckline, puffy sleeves and a pleated skirt. However, the royal’s repertoire of wrap dresses also extends to myriad of other brands. Previously, the royal has been seen in an array of wrap dresses by brands such as Issa, LK Bennett, and Diane von Furstenberg (the designer is known for being the first to create this style of dress in 1972, making it the brand’s trademark piece ever since). One of Kate’s most historic looks is a blue wrap dress by Issa she wore for her engagement announcement; she is a wrap dress aficionado through and through.
