Official Ole Miss Rebels Come To The Sip t-shirt

It’s no secret that Indigenous representation in mainstream Hollywood has been lacking, though recent projects such as Prey and Reservation Dogs have brought Native talent to the forefront. So to see not one, but several Indigenous stars take over the Cannes Film Festival’s red carpet this weekend has been thrilling. Better yet, many of the cast members have been using their opportunity to highlight Indigenous designers too, bringing a dash of cultural flair through their intentional fashion choices. With the annual Cannes Film Festival kicking off this past week, it’s safe to say that high glamour has taken over the red carpets. (See all of the gowns here.) But exquisite evening wear hasn’t just been confined to France alone. All week long, the best dressed stars in Hollywood have been sporting designs that are made to turn heads and make a statement—whether that be in Cannes, Venice, or New York City. The through line between some of the week’s best style moments? A heavy dose of Old Hollywood glitz, fused with modern touches.

Just earlier today, Jennifer Lawrence hit the step and repeat in Cannes wearing a classic red silk crepe Dior gown, complete with a cinched waist and long stole. Isabelle Huppert continued her Balenciaga kick in the label’s black lace turtleneck gown—complete with a non shoe shoe, a nude stiletto that was molded to look like a human foot. Who doesn’t love an offbeat shoe choice—especially at Cannes, which at one point and time banned flat shoes on the red carpet? Indigenous Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone, who’s already garnering Oscars buzz, also paired her floral Valentino gown with a pair of dentalium earrings by Jamie Okuma. In Venice, there were more traditional looks. At a Bulgari event, Anne Hathaway dazzled in a gold Versace gown, complete with a hooded silhouette Zendaya chose Richard Quinn’s black off the shoulder dress, finished off with a striking Bulgari snake necklace. In New York City, meanwhile, Meghan Markle set the Internet ablaze when she and Prince Harry attended the Ms. Foundation Women of Vision Award. Markle wore a strapless gold Johanna Ortiz dress, accentuated by strappy barely there Tom Ford heels. Her presence on the red carpets is a rarity these days—and the look was well worth the wait.
