Airport style in Cannes has historically been a point of discussion – whether it’s Julianne Moore wearing all black louche suiting or Kristen Stewart in jeans and a tank top, airport dressing is always so much chicer in the South of France. With such a strong start, we can’t wait to see what other looks Fanning and McMillen have up their sleeves for the rest of the festival. The Cannes Film Festival is fast approaching the blockbuster event will return with its usual whirlwind of photocalls, premieres and parties on May 16. Of course, Cannes has always been a magnet for the biggest names in Hollywood, so the French Riviera festival naturally sees some major style moments. Ahead of the return of Croisette style, immerse yourself in some epic Cannes pictures from the ’90s—from Grace Jones holding court at an after party to Naomi Campbell shutting down the red carpet like only a supermodel can. Sing it with me Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh—oh, no, no! Twenty years ago, Beyoncé kicked off her solo career with the hit song “Crazy in Love” and followed up her worldwide success with girl group Destiny’s Child. The music video for the track still remains one of Beyoncé’s most famous to date. (It has over 693 million views on YouTube alone.) Filmed in downtown LA, the video produced many memorable ensembles that continue to be referenced today—including the iconic white tank top, jean shorts, and red pumps that she sports to strut down the street and the spring 2003 Versace dress she wears in front of a giant fan. “We wanted to start out minimal and then go high fashion,” says the clip’s stylist, Ty Hunter.
Reflecting on the styles two decades later, Hunter says the video remains one of his favorite projects to date. It wasn’t his first time working with Beyoncé, though Hunter first worked with Destiny’s Child on “Survivor,” after meeting Tina Knowles while working in a boutique in Houston. “She would always come in the store, and she immediately became my other mother,” says Hunter of Tina. “She told me, ‘I’m going to get you out of here one day.’” She was true to her word Hunter soon began pulling clothes for Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams and eventually became Beyoncé’s go to stylist for her solo venture. It was the “Crazy in Love” video where he saw her become a megastar. “I actually went to the trailer and cried during that video because I was seeing my sister grow up,” says Hunter. “I knew it was her time.”Video Sony Music Entertainment
